Bruce Cohn Biography
Originally from Brooklyn, Bruce has recently moved from Staten Island to Atlantic Highlands, NJ. He has been involved with photography since age eleven, continued his interestthough high school and college, and had the opportunity to teach digital, black and white darkroom, and pinhole photography at Totten Intermediate School 34, SI. Bruce wrote a Photography Curriculum Guide for Middle Schools. He has been a past volunteer and board member at the Alice Austen House Museum, Staten Island, NY..
Bruce has exhibited at, the Snug Harbor Fence Art Show, Michael Ingbar Gallery, NYC, ICP, Umbrella Arts Gallery, NYC, and the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club, NJ.
His photos have been published in Metropolis and NYT City Home magazines, brochures for, the Center School- NYC, Lehman College, Stepping Stones Pre-School, and the SI Advance.
He received his BFA, Pratt Institute(‘67), MS, Richmond College (‘70), and took courses and workshops with photographers Eugene Richards, Willis Hartshorn and Harvey Stein.
Bruce has photographed in Argentina, Morocco, Greece and India. This summer he will join a workshop in Taos, New Mexico.
Like many visual artists, I notice and capture. Then elements are arranged in the frame usually by moving closer. I shoot mostly people, in action or at events, using wide angle lenses.
I use Lightroom mainly, for making selections and editing, then printing, matting and framing in my home workspace to complete the capture process.
I enjoy travelling and then living with my images from other cultures because being there is the best way to learn.
